Play Solana Rolls Out PlayVERSE on PSG1

Following the software’s release, the organization is pivoting from hardware sales toward the development of a comprehensive Solana gaming ecosystem directly on the device.

Play Solana Transforms PSG1 into a Centralized Solana Gaming Hub

Instead of forcing users to navigate various browser extensions, external wallets, and disconnected services, PlayVERSE integrates the entire user journey into a single console interface. This allows players to search for games, manage installations, launch titles, and download updates without exiting the device’s native ecosystem.

According to Play Solana, this software rollout is a pivotal development for the PSG1, which initially began shipping in October 2025. The company introduced the launch with the slogan “Gaming Season starts NOW,” marking the transition into a new phase of content distribution for the handheld.

The company continues to identify fragmentation as a major industry hurdle. Historically, web3 gaming has required players to jump between different blockchains, applications, and wallet interfaces. Data from DappRadar in May 2025 highlighted that blockchain gaming represented only 4.9 million daily active wallets—less than 0.6% of the 820 million active crypto wallets worldwide—attributing the slow adoption to disjointed ecosystems and difficult onboarding processes.

The technical foundation of PlayVERSE is supported by Play Gate, which functions as the publishing layer. It utilizes the Solana blockchain to record submission data for game builds and assets, including timestamps and submission hashes. Play Solana notes that this provides both creators and players with a transparent, auditable history of releases that does not rely solely on centralized servers.

Integrated Hardware and Wallet Functionality

The PSG1 is marketed as the first handheld console native to the Solana network. While the device features a retro aesthetic similar to a Game Boy, it operates on Android and features deep blockchain integration. It includes a built-in hardware wallet known as SvalGuard, which allows users to manage SOL, NFTs, and digital rewards without the need for third-party apps.

The base model of the device launched at $329, while a limited Pudgy Penguins Edition was offered at $349. The special edition provides unique ecosystem advantages and initiates an automatic burn of $PENGU tokens with every unit sold.

Regarding technical specs, the PSG1 is equipped with an RK3588S2 SoC, a 3.92-inch OLED screen, 8GB of RAM, and 128GB of internal storage. It supports Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.4, running on EchOS, an Android-based operating system specifically optimized for web3 gaming.

Security remains a core focus of the hardware. A fingerprint sensor on the back of the device facilitates passwordless logins and transaction authorization via SvalGuard. To ensure safety, private keys and transaction processing are isolated from the Android environment using the CPU’s Trusted Execution Environment and a dedicated, tamper-resistant Secure Element, further bolstered by StrongBox for hardware-level cryptographic protection.

The PLAY Token and Solana’s Gaming Roadmap

PlayVERSE is deeply connected to the broader Play Solana financial ecosystem. The PLAY token serves as the primary utility asset for staking, marketplace trades, rewards, and exclusive airdrops for PSG1 owners. Any tokens acquired through gameplay are settled directly into the integrated device wallet, eliminating the need for external confirmations.

The ecosystem is further supported by Play DEX, which manages leaderboards, quests, and staking, and Play ID, which serves as a universal identity layer. The flagship title, Play Solana: Origins, uses a narrative-driven experience to introduce players to web3 concepts like NFTs, swaps, and staking through active play.

The rollout of PlayVERSE and the PSG1 aligns with Solana’s broader hardware initiatives. The Solana Saga, a blockchain-centric Android phone, launched in 2022 and saw a massive surge in secondary market value following a BONK token airdrop. This was followed by the Seeker phone, which secured 150,000 pre-orders and generated roughly $67.5 million in revenue before its global distribution in August 2025.
