PETALING JAYA: Malaysia recorded 1,576 new Covid-19 infections on Monday (Dec 5), bringing the total number of cases in the country to 5,001,908 since the pandemic began.
The Health Ministry’s KKMNow portal reported that 1,575 of Monday’s new Covid-19 cases were locally transmitted while there was one imported infection.
Recoveries outpace new cases on Monday, with KKNow showing that 2,278 individuals recovered from Covid-19 infections on Monday.
This brings the total number of recoveries in Malaysia to 4,943,392 since the pandemic began.
As at 11.59pm Monday, there were 21,800 active Covid-19 cases in the country, with 20,198, or 92.7%, observing home quarantine.
A total of 1,504 Covid-19 patients, or 6.9% of active cases, were still seeking treatment at hospitals nationwide while there were 98 warded in intensive care units (ICU).
Of those in ICU as at 11.59am Monday, 29, or 0.1% of active Covid-19 cases were unventilated while 69 individuals, or 0.3%, required ventilator support.
The KKMNow portal also reported that Malaysia’s overall hospital utilisation rate stood at 72.3% while the ICU utilisation rate nationwide was at 61.6%.
The Health Ministry’s GitHub data repository showed that three individuals died due to Covid-19, including two classified as brought-in-dead.
The repository also showed that this brings the total number of Covid-19 fatalities in the country to 36,716 since the pandemic began.
Two of Monday’s Covid-19 deaths were recorded in Johor while one fatality was recorded in Perak.
