DESPITE having left the school 57 years ago, a group of alumni from SJK (T) Ladang Ulu Remis in Johor still made it a point to visit the school and help out, Malaysia Nanban reported.
The group comprised those who continued their secondary studies at SM Layang-Layang between 1956 and 1971. They took great joy in being able to return to their alma mater for the reunion, serving breakfast to the pupils while presenting school supplies to 47 of them in both preschool and primary levels.
One of the alumni, L. Chandran, said although they left the school decades ago, they had fond memories of studying there. They wanted to help out their beloved school and its pupils.
He urged fellow alumni of the school to join them.
> Malaysia Nanban also reported that the plight of nine Indian families, who have been living without water supply for a year, would come to an end soon.
The families from Teluk Intan, Perak, have been living on unused government land in Kampung Gloucester for the past 40 years.
Their water supply was disrupted after a pipe broke last year.
With help from MIC vice-president Datuk T. Murugiah and state coordinator Datuk V. Elango, the families will soon get their water supply back as Lembaga Air Perak has agreed to install new pipes in the area.
