PETALING JAYA: Malaysia detected 1,591 new Covid-19 cases on Saturday (June 4), bringing the cumulative number of infections in the country to 4,513,631 since the pandemic began.
The Health Ministry’s CovidNow portal reported that 1,586 of Saturday’s new cases were local transmissions while there were five imported infections.
The portal also reported that 2,185 individuals recovered from Covid-19 infections on Saturday, bringing active cases in the country to 22,447.
A total of 21,480 of Saturday’s active cases, or 95.7%, are observing home quarantine while 18 individuals, or 0.1%, are at Quarantine and Treatment Centres throughout the country.
The portal also reported that 922 people, or 4.1% of the total, have been warded in hospital due to Covid-19.
Some 27 individuals are currently being treated at intensive care units (ICU) nationwide, with 17 requiring ventilator support.
The CovidNow portal also reported that the national ICU utilisation rate stood at 58.6% but only 5.9% was due to Covid-19 cases.
Meanwhile, the Health Ministry’s GitHub data repository reported that there were five deaths due to Covid-19 on Saturday, including two classified as brought-in-dead (BID).
The brings the cumulative number of fatalities due to Covid-19 in Malaysia to 35,686 since the pandemic began.
