THE alumni of SJK (T) Saraswathy in Sungai Petani, Kedah, are being urged to give generously to mark the school’s 100th anniversary, Malaysia Nanban reported.
A special celebration next year is being planned by headmaster Ravi Ammasi.
A local activist known only as Ramasamy kickstarted the fund-raising effort with a RM1,000 donation.
The school’s parent-teacher association (PTA), along with Ravi, thanked Ramasamy and accepted the donation.
They also encouraged former pupils and other donors who are keen to help to contact the PTA.
The school was founded in 1923 by committee members of the Sri Subramaniya Swami Devasthanam temple, with 25 pupils.
Swamy Nayakkar was the first headmaster.
The school now has 45 teachers and 550 pupils.
> A Tamil musical instrument conference in November is being organised by the Ipoh Muthamizh Paavalar Mandram (Tamil Poets Society), Makkal Osai reported.
Mandram president Arumugam Kannan said the event would be held at the Sri Maha Mariamman temple in Ipoh.
The event will showcase musical instruments native to the Tamil community and explain their history.
