PETALING JAYA: DAP’s Bangi MP Ong Kian Ming says he will not offer himself as a candidate in the coming 15th general election (GE15).
In a tweet early Monday (May 9) morning, the 46-year-old two-term MP said it was not a decision made in a hurry but something that had been discussed since last year.
“I see this as a step to open up more doors for other younger leaders to step up,” he said in his tweet.
He added that he would issue a more detailed statement on the matter latter Monday.
Ong was first elected to Parliament in 2013 during GE13, when he won the then Serdang seat. In GE14, Ong retained his seat, which had since been redesignated as Bangi.
In the recently concluded DAP party polls, Ong was among those who did not make the cut for a spot on the party’s central executive committee.
I will share my full press statement on my decision not to offer myself as a candidate in GE15 later today. This was not a decision made in a hurry but was discussed since last year. I see it as a step to open up more doors for other younger leaders in @dapmalaysia to step up.
